Strike is the second book in the Completion Series. There is no
connection to Play (book I) except the sports theme. Strike is a standalone HEA
novel.
Nineteen-year-old Jaycee Shumway breaks into professional baseball
player, Reed Tyler’s home, to steal the second most
valuable set of balls he owns. Neither of them expect their striking attraction
or battle of wills to lead them to a homerun.
Jaycee has more than herself to worry about. When Reed discovers she
has a younger brother and sister, he’s quickly caught
up in their world of need and heartbreak.
Baseball season begins and the separation puts Reed and Jaycee’s game on hold.
With bases loaded and hearts on the line, will Reed convince Jaycee that she
needs him to win or will Jaycee strike out and walk off the field forever?
This New Adult book is intended for mature audiences.
His husky laughter rang out, drowning me in the sexy sound. Why couldn’t he snort like a pig or something just as ridiculous when he laughed?
“You’re very concerned about my balls,” he said when his laughter died away.
My smartass mouth took front and center. “If you remember… I’ve seen your balls and it would be unsporting of me not to be concerned.”
Oh, God, his eyes sparkled and I would do anything to take back my words and the thoughts they conjured.
Reed wouldn’t let it pass. “I’ve seen a fair amount of you and that also causes me concern. So much concern that I didn’t sleep well last night.”
Mortification anyone?
“A gentleman wouldn’t bring that up.”
This time, his laugh was plain evil. “A gentleman wouldn’t have cut away your shirt and bra. A gentleman wouldn’t have admired your tits. A gentleman wouldn’t do this…”
I had no time to prepare for what happened next. His warm lips took mine at the same time his hands closed around my upper arms, trapping me. My entire body reacted to the kiss. I grew light-headed, my breasts ached, and my heart almost exploded out of my chest. But it was the taste of his mouth that had me squeezing my thighs together. I never knew anyone could taste this good. There was no description on earth that did it justice. I wanted to eat him whole.
Jaycee has had it rough, left to raise her younger brother and sister as well as work and trying to keep up with her studies.
ARC received for an honest review
BATTER UP!! I love my books with my alpha males - whether they be rock stars, billionaires, bikers, or in this case, pro athletes.
I loved the first book in the Completion series, Play, and was happy when I had the chance to join the blog tour for Strike. The books to not connect at all - besides he hot athlete aspect - so they can be read as stand alones.
She is one tough cookie, but desperate times call for desperate measures, and those desperate measures throw her in the path of Reed Tyler.
Next up to the plate ~ Reed Tyler, pro baseball player, and sex on a stick. Their world's couldn't be any more different, but they could be what each other needs.
At first I thought Jaycee was going to be one of those "too independent for her own good" kind of heroine, but was pleasantly surprised that she wasn't as much like that as she could have been. I could completely relate that she did not want to take charity, but loved that she was also smart enough to accept help when it was offered to her.
And Reed...... ahhhhh Reed. He is such a sweetheart - when he gets over being a bit of a dick! He can't help but be drawn into Jaycee, Jon and Bitsy's life.
At times I thought that Jaycee and Reed's relationship was moving at warp speed, but then again, in the world of the uber-alpha man, this is the norm! I am not a fan of the "insta-love" between characters, but as Strike is a fun, quick read, there was no option.
I loved Jon and Bitsy. John is 15 going on 40, trying to do well at school as well as help raise his little sister. He is at that hard age where he is not a boy but not a man, but needing to be.
And Bitsy - what a sweetheart. She has everyone wrapped around her little finger ~~ as she quite rightly should!
This is the second of Ms Robert's books I have had the pleasure to read, and I thoroughly enjoy her writing style. Things happen pretty fast, as they are quick fun reads, but I get drawn into the story, and I look forward to reading her future works.
Now, bring on the basketball player, the hockey player...
