When is a slut not a slut? When she is Denver Dempsey. After gaining the reputation in high school, she had decided to own it.She is looking for a clean start when she moves away to college, as part of the university's rodeo team.
Her best friend Greer, and hot as hell "best friend with benefits" follows her to uni, he wants more and he wants her to give him a chance.
Ransom. Bull rider. Hot as hell, and completely into Denver. At least until he hears of her reputation. He can't believe what he hears about her, until he hears it from her.
There is a lot more than meets the eye with all their stories.
Used is a story of love and hate. Lust. Lies. Hope and Betrayal.
It took me a while to warm up to Denver - who would go around announcing that they are a slut? She has some issues that have formed the wall around her heart, and left her feeling empty.
And Greer and Ransom... hmmm the one who has loved her his whole live, the one who could love her forever.
I started out really liking Greer, heck he gave up his college plans to follow her to school and be there for her. I believe he really really does love Denver, but OMG some of the things he does! It tore my heart out as I was reading.
Ransom - doesn't want to be attracted to Denver, but he can't stay away.
Who will be the one who is there for Denver? For that you are going to have to read for yourself.
Used had me all over the place. I loved Greer but hated what he did. I loved Ransom, but hated him for being so pig-headed. I loved Denver but hated how she thought of herself.
I wanted to shake Denver and get her to see her self worth. Seriously girl, snap out of it! I am hoping that in the next 2 books, Freed and Redeemed, she can pull her head out of her backside and see herself as Greer sees her! But I guess she was not all pitiful, woe-is-me, damsel in distressy. She is actually pretty strong all things considered. She is a contradiction,.
And ugh, the love triangle - why do we always have to have a love triangle!! I am still undecided who I think Denver should be with, and I am hoping Ms Halat can take us along more of a rollercoaster until we find out.
I enjoy Ms Halat's writing, having read her other two books and liking them too. The character development in all 3 main characters was well rounded and I liked that we didn't have the complete 180 degrees personality transplant within 3 chapters with them. It was a gradual, realistic change.
Now, here's some Ransom inspiration....

I also loved the secondary characters, Maggie and Austin. Their light-hearted, flirty and fun personalities even out the angsty, dark places that the story gets taken to, and I hope we get more of them in the following books.
I love a book that takes me on a bit of a rollercoaster journey, and Used achieved that for me.
