✪ The German Wife ✪ Kelly Rimmer ✪

Inspired by real events, the New York Times bestselling author of The Warsaw Orphan returns with an unputdownable novel of a community torn apart when a former Nazi family moves into town to work on NASA's space program

Berlin, 1934. Sofie Rhodes is the aristocratic wife of a scientist whose post-WWI fortunes change for the better when her husband, Jurgen, is recruited for Hitler's new rocket project. But too late they realise the Nazis' plans to weaponise Jurgen's technology as they begin to wage war against the rest of Europe.

Alabama, 1949 Jurgen is one of hundreds of Nazi scientists offered pardons and taken to the US to work for the CIA's fledgling space program. Sofie, now the mother of four, misses Germany terribly and struggles to fit in among the other NASA wives.

When news about the Rhodes family's affiliation with the Nazi party spreads, idle gossip turns to bitter rage, and the act of violence that results will tear apart a community and a family before the truth is finally revealed - but is it murder, revenge or justice?

Copy received from Hachette Australia for an honest review

Kelly Rimmer has again given us a thought provoking, at times heartbreaking tale set in out not too distant past.

The German Wife gives us points of view prior, during and after World War 2, and it will break your heart then lift it right up again. We are set in Nazi Germany, the US Dust Bowl and post war Alabama, so we have a lot to process as we are reading

You can tell that the author has done extensive research into Operation Paperclip and the US Government bringing German scientist to work on their space programme - I am wondering if our main male character Jurgen is based on Von Braun?

This shows us the reality of the post war period. the prejudices faced by those who have had their choices taken away, when they are just trying to do what they have to do to keep their family safe.

I cried at times as I was reading.  We sit here in the here and now and complain about how difficult things are (and yes, they are our complaints and are allowed to own then), but when I sit and read about what people of my grandparents generation went through, I do think we can be quite a whiney bunch!

The Gernan Wife is a poignant story that will leave you thinking about it for a long time after finishing it.

Arrochar Adair has loved her brother’s ex-bodyguard and best friend, Mac Galbraith, for years. Once upon a time, she was too young for him, but now that she’s a mature woman in her thirties, Arro can see no issue with their difference in age. Yet something deeper, a problem much more difficult to surmount, is keeping them apart.

Mac Galbraith remembers clearly the night Arro became everything to him, no longer just his best friend and boss’s younger sister. However, having made many mistakes over the years, there is one mistake Mac is determined not to make: to believe that he is worthy of Arrochar Adair. Allowing them to grow closer during his daughter, Robyn’s, return has proven his undoing. And when Arro forces the subject of their relationship, his response pushes her away. He just never meant for it to destroy them completely.

Devastated by Mac’s final rejection, Arro is determined to move on without him in her life, though he seems intent on staying put. And when the Adair family face a new threat, one that may have ties to Mac’s past, Arro can’t seem to be rid of the man. In fact, Mac will do anything to protect her.

But with so much hurt between them, will Arro let Mac close enough to guard her from their enemy… before it’s too late?

Arro + Mac

In the previous two books we already saw how much Arro is in love with Mac. But he's 13 years older and her big brother's best friend - he can't fall for her - or he can't fall more for her than he already has. And even if those things were different - there are still things in his life and his past that would make everbody believe he doesn't deserve Arro.
It doesn't matter anyway because she might've fallen out of love with him after the way he treated a while back.
And now there's danger lurking again for the Adair family - especially for Arro.

What will happen with Arrochar + Mac??
Will we get our happily ever after??
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! ☺

Beautiful. What else could I say?
Sam just knows her scottish people and places and feelings!
This was such a sweet and sparky and heartbreaking and frustrating and exciting and suspensy love story!
We just finalllly need Arro and Mac to get their happily ever after - but it's not looking too good at first... Lots of stuff in the way of that happy end. And we love to read about all of it!

It was maybe a tiny bit too long, with some moments that could've been cut. It was too much of the same: I can't forgive him. Maybe one day. She will hate me when I tell her. Bla bla. It was a bit too much back and forth.
And then just my personal hate for age gap thingies. I just hate it when the guy is so much older. Men die younger anyway, why do so many authors want to destroy our bookish HEAs with that sooner-than-necessary-death for our darlings? 😒
But I still loved every second of the story!

We see more of the other two brothers this time - they came home for Lachlan's wedding.
Now I can't wait for the next book - or for all the books that are still coming - I hope we'll get a few more!

Like I already said in my review for the first books - I could totally imagine this as an amazing Netflix show. We already basically 'see' everything Sam writes about. She describes everything so beautifully. The people, the places... everything.

Beautiful cover, beautiful content!
I loved reading this. Amazing series!

ALWAYS YOU was such a beautiful age gap love story!
So full of family. Heartbreak. Danger. Suspense. Sparks! Sexy times! All the things!
Run to your nearest amazon for your own Mac - this one is MINE!
