✪ Cold Storage ✪ David Koepp ✪

Available 24th September 2019

For readers of Andy Weir and Noah Hawley comes an astonishing debut by the screenwriter of Jurassic Park: a wild and terrifying adventure about three strangers who must work together to contain a highly contagious, deadly organism

When Pentagon bioterror operative Roberto Diaz was sent to investigate a suspected biochemical attack, he found something far worse: a highly mutative organism capable of extinction-level destruction. He contained it and buried it in cold storage deep beneath a little-used military repository.

Now, after decades of festering in a forgotten sub-basement, the specimen has found its way out and is on a lethal feeding frenzy. Only Diaz knows how to stop it.

He races across the country to help two unwitting security guards—one an ex-con, the other a single mother. Over one harrowing night, the unlikely trio must figure out how to quarantine this horror again. All they have is luck, fearlessness, and a mordant sense of humor. Will that be enough to save all of humanity?

This is David Koepp's debut novel, however you can see the screenwriter in him shine through in his story.

Cold Storage is an entertaining, if at times farcical sci-fi/horror story about a killer fungus that could take over the world.

Now, I am not sure if this book was supposed to be funny or serious, however I found it had many laugh out loud moments.  I know it is fiction and supposed to stretch our belief, but gees, come on sometimes it was just u eye-roll worthy.

I found that the story flowed well, but it did lack character development.  They were all a little 2 dimensional for me.  I felt that they would probably come across better on the screen than the page (not surprising though with the author's background).

The highlight of the story for me was a character called "Teacake".  I don't want to spoil anything, however is quite delightful.

So, whilst this isn't the heaviest of reads, I did find myself picking it up each lunch time to dive a little more into this fantastical adventure. It's not the greatest book out there, however it was enjoyable enough for me to keep reading.

✪ Beard With Me (Winston Brothers 5.5) ✪ Penny Reid ✪

‘Beard With Me’ is the origin story of Billy Winston and Scarlet St. Claire (aka Claire McClure) and is just the beginning of their epic love story.

No one is better at surviving than Scarlet St. Claire and making the best out of circumstances beyond her control is Scarlet’s specialty. In an apocalyptic situation, she’d be the last person on earth, hermitting like a pro, singing along to her CD Walkman, and dancing like no one is watching.

Scarlet is clever, Scarlet is careful, and Scarlet is smart . . . except when it comes to Billy Winston.

No one is better at fighting than Billy Winston and raging against his circumstances—because nothing is beyond his control—is Billy’s specialty. In an apocalyptic situation, he’d be the first person on earth to lead others to safety, overcome catastrophe, or die trying.

Billy is fearless, Billy is disciplined, and Billy is honorable . . . except when it comes to Scarlet St. Claire.

Now, I am so far behind with the Winston series - I have read Roscoe's story but not the others.  I have had them sitting on my shelf for a couple of years now, but so many books, so little time.

I keep telling myself that I need to read them, however after reading Billy and Scarlet/Claire's origin story, I am not thinking I want to wait for all the brother's origin stories first - such a dilemma.

I didn't know much about the Winston's past at all, except from Darrell, and what we learn in Roscoe and Ashley's stories.  I liked going in blind with this to find out more.

Beard With Me is heartbreaking, making me cry for at least the last 20% of the story.  Oh my!

I have been watching Penny's warnings for the past month or so saying this book is going to break us - and she tore my heart out and stomped all over it!
I don't want to give anything away, as this is a story you need to dive into blind, to devour, to feel all the feels.

This book is definitely one of my favourite Penny stores.

And now I am back at my dilemma - more origin stories, or present day Winstons (I so want more of teenage Cletus!)

Release Date: October 22, 2019

Just Ten Seconds
That’s all it took for my life to change forever.

I left my posh life in Manhattan and escaped to the Hudson Valley in hopes of a fresh start. It wasn’t until I happened upon a bereavement group when I finally found a place I felt understood. I told them my husband was dead when, really, I was the one who had died inside. It was also where I saw the smoldering gaze of Dean Delgado, the single father whom I’d helped just days before.

Just Ten Seconds
That’s all he wishes he had with his late wife.

Despite Dean’s widowed status, he has a robust thirst for life. He’s a protector and a giver. A man who fixes things with his hands, is devoted to his child, and wants to spend his days with me. I try to avoid him, knowing a woman with my past has no business being in this man’s life. With every run-in, he makes me laugh. With every touch, he ignites me. And with every second, he makes me feel like myself again.

Just Ten Seconds
That’s all it took for me to fall in love with Dean Delgado.

I'm in too deep and my secrets are about to be exposed. I only hope he can forgive me for the lies I never meant to tell.

✪ Hated You Then (Love Hurts #1) ✪ M. Robinson ✪

From Wall Street Journal & USA Bestselling Author M. Robinson. A coming of age, enemies to lovers, contemporary romance filled with angst and all the feels.

I couldn’t remember a time before her... Harley Jameson.

Before she owned me.
Hated Me.
Needed me.

Before I hated her…

Things were simple.
We had an understanding.

Bully. Fight. Hate. It’s what we did.

Mind. Body. Soul. It’s how we loved.

I thought nothing would ever change that, until everything did.

She was mine.
Always had been.
Always would be.
Nothing altered that.

Not how much I hated her.
Not how much she hated me.

Especially, not how much I hated…

That I LOVED her.

Oyyyy this book!

Now, if you have read the Pierced Hearts Duet (you don't need to have), you will have a bit of an idea of where this story was going.

Heck, even after the prologue of Hated You Then, I thought I knew where this story was going.

I was wrong. So wrong.

I was expecting a Jackson and Harley story from the present day, and what we get is their history, from little kids to teenagers.

And a whole lot of frustrations!

Gah, this pair!  I wanted to lock them in a room until they could at least appear to be nice to each other.  We have seen their "hate" for each other in the previous books, but this takes things to a whole different level - and I have been impatiently waiting for Ms Robinson to let these two loose.

I ran the whole gamut of emotions, from times when I thought all of their hate was cute and funny, to wanting to throw my Kindle across the room.  This is what M. Robinson does best.

I loved seeing the Good Ol' Boys: Generation 1 again.  Am looking forward to more of The Next Gen in the future.

I need Love Hurts #2 NOW!

• can be read as a standalone

It started out like any normal day.

Then the fender bender happened.

The guy I collided with drove an expensive car and was drop-dead gorgeous.  Too bad he was also a total jerk.  We argued over whose fault it was and any other thing that came out of his condescending mouth.

Eventually, the police came and we went our separate ways.  The insurance companies would have to figure things out.  I had a job interview to get to anywayone I was excited about.

Though that excitement changed to disappointment the moment the person interviewing me walked in.  The guy from the accident.

Yeah, so I didn’t get the position.

The problem was, I really wanted it. No, I needed it. Anything to get me out of my current career and back into working with kids.

So, even though Hollis LaCroix was as intimidating as he was devastatingly handsome, I went back to see him and begged for a chance.

To my surprise, he gave me a shot taking care of his troubled niece.

At least my attraction to him wouldn’t be able to go anywhere. I wasn’t about to jeopardize my job or the strong bond Hailey and I formed.

But resisting the magnetic pull between us wasn’t that simple. (Then there was our little underwear gamedont ask.)

We continued to flirt without crossing the lineuntil it finally happened.

This is the part of the story where we fall in love and live happily ever after, right?

Well, life has a way of throwing some major curveballs.

Ours was one I didn’t see coming.

“Would you like something to drink, Hollis?”
“No, thank you.”
He looked completely uncomfortable standing in my kitchen,
so of course, I needed to make it worse.
I tilted my head. “Did you touch any?”
“My panties. Did you touch any while you were in the bathroom?”
He tugged at the collar of his polo and looked down the hall.
“Where did she go? We need to get back on the road.”
Oh my God!
I’d been kidding around. But...holy shit...he had!
I covered my mouth and cracked up.
“You did, didn’t you! You perv!”
Hollis walked down the hall.
“Hailey...let’s get going.”
I couldn’t get the smile off my face.
Something about the thought of Hollis touching my underwear
amused the hell out of me.
I wished Hailey wasn’t around so I could ask him if he’d smelled them, too.
That thought actually made me snort.
Hollis came back to the kitchen. His face was stern.
“We’ll see you on Monday.”
I walked them to the door. Hailey surprised me with a hug.
“Your art stuff is awesome.”
“Thank you, sweetheart.”
I grinned at Hollis, who was impatiently holding the door open for his niece.
“Your uncle thinks my stuff is awesome, too.”
