Beth and Tommy are 16. At school they are happy and falling in love with each other. But their home-life is horrible! They live in a foster home. For juvenile criminals. We don't yet know what they did to end up there, but whatever it was, they don't deserve the things that happen there!
The pastor foster-father and his wife beat and molest the kids! And they starve them and lock them into their rooms at night!
And one night the kids just can't take it anymore.
We don't exactly know how and who, but the pastor ends up dead for raping Beth .... and Tommy, Simon and Carissa end up in jail.
Only that's not where they're staying for the rest of their lives. They made a deal with this guy Bates.
He gets them out of the murder charges and they'll owe him a debt.
And one day the debt has to be paid. No matter what, where, who, how.
Fast forward seven years.
Tommy is working construction. Simon is a award-winning journalist. Beth has disappeared and Carissa is now working for that criminal ....

Phew. That was some book!
Of course you immediately think of that movie ... remember?
And yes, it's a bit like that.
But not really .... it's such a great story.
It starts as this heartbreakingly sad but also adorable young adult thing and we immediately fall in love with Tommy and Beth and we only want the best for them.
Ugh. It was so moving and heartbreaking and sad.
You hope all through the book that there will be a tiny chance for a HEA in there somewhere. But it's not looking too good ... All those people against us. The drugs. The bad guys. Music business. The pain of the past.
Of course this is only book #1 - so we'll keep on hoping!☺
