The worst thing a man can do is not be with the woman he loves.

She could have him sacked quicker than licking her lips. He could ruin her reputation with an email.

Jacinta was the CEO in waiting. Mace was the geek from IT. She had an office suite on the top floor. He worked in cubicle hell.

She had power, influence, her life mapped out. He had big dreams, and an appetite for risk.

They had one hot night written all over them, except the city conspired to turn that night into a weekend of unexpected passion and deep connection.

Will love be enough when Jacinta’s star falls and Mace’s dream takes flight, or will ambition, expectation and insecurity pull them apart?

Mace is a really hot IT nerd....

Jacinta is his boss...
'Princess Severe' as he secretly calls her.

And she just kinda propositioned him - at work!
He's not sure what to do - he's intrigued - but a bit scared too...
But of course he takes her up on her offer...
And he finally sees the 'girl' behind the tough business exterior...
But they're both sure that it was just the one night - or the one weekend as it turned out...
because next to their explosive affair - real explosions have happened in the city and Jacinta's street is on lockdown....and Mace 'has' to spend the weekend ☺

Then a business-deal goes wrong and suddenly Jacinta's professional future seems not that bright anymore...

And Mace ... he has a dream to start up his own company with his buddy Dillon - but they need money .... and someone to believe in them.

Lots of things happen - lots of SEXY things - lots of good and bad business things...

But....

WHAT WiLL HAPPEN WiTH JACiNTA & MACE???
WiLL THEY BOTH OVERCOME ALL THEiR INSECURiTiES???

WiLL THERE BE A HEA???
WiLL THERE BE A CLiFFHANGER???

Nope - not telling you ☺

I REALLY LOVED THE BOOK!

The first page worried me a bit ... I just got a weird first impression. I first thought this was going to be some kind of apocalyptic-post-nuclear-war kind of story. But it was 'just' a 'normal' explosion that happened in the city. Phew ☺

But after that first page - after I understood what it was about....I fell in love with Mace and Jacinta.
This story was soooo beautiful. And realllly beautifully written.
The sex-scenes - some of you might know that I love my sex scenes frequently and very explicit ☺ - and I know that Ainslie doesn't really do my kind of sex scenes ..... BUT this time she really surprised me with them. There were no explicit words or anything - but it was almost poetic, the way she described everything. It was so very erotic and full of feelings and ... just so beautiful.

And the story.
First you think that this is just the complete opposite of all the other romances, with their hot male CEO's - because here we have this though business woman.....
And it is like that...BUT it's also not like that at all...

He's never heard her laugh before, never seen what it did to her. Opened her up like a treasure chest, all the wealth of her glittered in her eyes, across her cheeks, off her lips. Those riches could make any man lose the power of speech.

There's so much more behind the tough business exterior and there's also so much more behind this geeky IT guy.

"Dance with me."
He grinned.
"You Can't stand up."
"So hold me. No one ever holds me."

They both discover more about each other and themselves than they ever expected to....

Then there's the whole side-story about this explosion stuff - and of course that reminds us of Boston ... but it's more or less just the background for whatever happens in Jacinta & Mace's story... It's 'only' the reason they were first brought together for longer than their planned one-night-stand...

There were so many moving moments in this book - and lots of funny stuff too (like a phone-call to Dillon for example ☺ LOL) - and LOTS of EROTIC moments.

Just like all of Ainslie's books - this one was just as wonderful and unexpected. Perfect really!

I could and would want to write so much more about this wonderful book - but everything I'd say would totally spoil your reading pleasure ☺

INSECURE was an amazingly beautiful & interesting Romance about two people who first need to fight with everything they have to overcome the problems life throws at them, and then get over their own insecurities, in order to find their HEA with each other.

READ IT!!!!!!!

And now please Ainslie - hurry with whatever new thing you're writing about - you always come up with the Surprising and the Unexpected!!!!

ARC received from author for an honest review

I love it when we get an email from Ainslie Paton asking if we are interested in reading her next novel.  Ever since we stumbled across her work a couple of years ago, we have read everything she has read, and she has never disappointed.

And Insecure is no exception.

Jacinta is a workaholic, career driven woman.

Mace is the IT geek she hits on for a one night stand.

Right from the start I adored Mace. He is like the Clayton's geek - the geek you have when you don't have a geek.  Definitely not the pocket protector wearing, nerdy geek type. I think Jacinta sums him up the best:

"You're built for sex.  Look at you, the most unlikely geek in the server room."  She made a vague hand gesture at him.  "You don't get to look like you from testing software."

Jacinta does not really live up to Mace's nickname for her - Princess Severe.

Yes, she is driven, one of a few women on the top of the game in her career.  But beneath it all I could feel her vulnerability, her loneliness.

This is one of the things I love most about Ms Paton's work.  They are not your average, run of the mill characters with average, run of the mill relationships.

You could feel from the minute Jacinta and Mace "hook up" that there is going to be more to them than just one night.  There is just something there.  Her motives may have been purely based on aesthetics, - because Mace sure does look good - but there is a deeper connection from the get go.

There are so many things going on in their lives that they just don't have time for all that relationship bizzo. But you want them to be more, so much more. Every time they go to walk out that door, I wanted to call out "no, don't do it!!"

So, can Jacinta and Mace make a go of things? Will work get in the way of a good thing? Or will it really only be a one night - or one weekend - stand?

Nuh uh - for that you are going to have to read for yourself.

I really did adore Insecure. I could feel our lovelies insecurities coming through the pages.

There are some great secondary characters too, especially Dillon and Jay. There are some that I really, really disliked too - Malcolm is a dick with no redeeming qualities to me at all!

If you are looking for a book that is a little bit different, you need to give Insecure, or any of Ms Paton's books a go.
