Named a Most Anticipated Book of 2023 by BuzzFeed ∙ Paste Magazine ∙ Southern Living ∙ and more!

A couple who broke up months ago pretend to still be together for their annual weeklong vacation with their best friends in this glittering and wise new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t.

They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

Which is how they find themselves sharing a bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade. Their annual respite from the world, where for one vibrant, blissful week they leave behind their daily lives; have copious amounts of cheese, wine, and seafood; and soak up the salty coastal air with the people who understand them most.

Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth while trying not to notice how desperately they still want each other. Because the cottage is for sale and this is the last week they’ll all have together in this place. They can’t stand to break their friends’ hearts, and so they’ll play their parts. Harriet will be the driven surgical resident who never starts a fight, and Wyn will be the laid-back charmer who never lets the cracks show. It’s a flawless plan (if you look at it from a great distance and through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses). After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one week…in front of those who know you best?

Harriet + Wyn

Harriet found her two BFFs on her first day of college over a decade ago. Chloe and Sabrina and Harriet spent the most amazing times together - especially every summer in Sabrina's dad's mansion on the Maine coast. But now he's selling the place, so this is the last summer.
They went to Maine every year - after a while they all started bringing their better halves too. All six of them are the bestest of friends - even though they all live very far away from each other.
These summers are sacred.
Harriet and Wyn met at that place one summer. And they've been together for over eight years now.
At least everybody thinks so.
But they broke up six months ago - without telling any of their friends.
And now they have to spend the week in Maine pretending ....
That happy place might not be so happy anymore... right?

LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN ... ☺

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO HARRIET + WYN
WILL WE GET A SECOND CHANCE AT A HAPPILY EVER AFTER?

Adorable!

That was such a sweet book!
I usually hate books that go back in time a lot. But we had to know how they all met and how things happened with Harriet and Wyn. But most of the book is set in present time Maine.
And it's all so sad! Why did they break up? They're so perfect for each other!!
I really wanted them to get that second happily ever after...
But it's not easy. There was a reason for breaking up... but we don't know what it was.
But the mood is not all sad and heartbreaky all through the book. We have an amazing time with all the friends. Lots of laughter and alcohol and sitting by the pool and talking and soo much more.
I wanted to join them in that beautiful little tourist town and eat all the lobster rolls and drink all the maple lattes!
I loved seeing those friendships and all their problems and the secrets they're keeping.
It was all so very adorable and funny and sad and ... just beautiful.

I need to see this as a movie one day!

HAPPY PLACE was such a sweet and heartbreaking second-chance love story. Full of friends and love and fun and summer and everything good! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Wyn - he'll be sold out in no time!

I didn’t know he was forbidden until after our one night stand…

I met Milo Corti during his self-destructive era, and he met me at the beginning of mine. That night when we crossed paths at a college party, we only had one goal: to feel good during our hell storms.

After we parted ways, I’d planned never to see him again. That was until I showed up for my first day as a student-teacher and found him sitting right there before me. Now I was forced to cross paths with the person meant to be nothing more than a fading memory.

The more time we spent together, the more drawn I felt toward him. When his world shifted for the worse, I couldn’t help but to lean in closer.

I’d always done the right thing. For the first time ever, I wanted to do something very wrong. I wanted to fall in love with the one person who was off-limits.

The problem with falling for something forbidden? Once you began to descend, you were destined to crash and burn.

Starlet + Milo

Starlet had her life all planned out since she was 14 years old.
But her cheating idiot of a boyfriend just put a stop to everything. And on her 21st birthday no less. She was expecting a proposal and not to stand around a frat party trying to drink and flirt with a stranger - like her bestie told her to do.
Enter Milo. He seems to be in a similar mood. And they bicker their way into bed that night.
And of course she's his tutor the next day in her new job as a student teacher.
They try to be just friends until graduation - but ....

Well. I loved parts of it. But I also hated most of it.
I just can't handle books with sick people.
It seems like most people in books (and real life) are depressed these days. I could live with that in a book - I don't need it, but okay - it is what it is. But wouldn't it be healthier for real-life depressed people to read about healthy people? But what do I know.
But then... here we get teased very early on with what will happen and I immediately said to my kindle: If that's happening I'm done!
I kept on reading and finished it, but I hated that thing.
I also hated other parts. She's 21 and he's 19. Nothing about anything here is illegal ... she could've just asked for another class or another student to tutor. That would've made everything unproblematic. But we obviously need drama in our books. (I don't!)
This was not my day not my book not my trope(s).
I'm so sorry - Brittainy is not at fault here at all. (Even though I did have my problems with some of the writing too!)
I just couldn't love this like I wanted to.
I think we could've put both of them into college and the story would've been just as great. We could've gotten drama from somewhere else. I don't like student-teacher things. Even though there was nothing illegal about it this time. No creepy pedo moments or anything like in other books.
There were lots of cute moments, funny ones (Tom!), very heartbreaking ones.
It wasn't all bad! Don't let me scare you too far away with my complaining! I really liked the cast - Tom and the uncle were great.
It's a great romance for readers who love student/teacher and heartbreaking sickness things. (Nobody dies! The mothers are already dead though!)

Oh and while I'm at it with all the complaining... LOL!
I hated Starlet's dad job. I hate tattoos!
I hate-hate-hated her musical taste! BTS? 🤮
And his musical taste was just as bad - smooth Jazz. Ew.
Their 'secret' dreams? Driving around the country? It makes no sense. Especially with his mom's recipes being mentioned in the prologue! He should want to become a chef! Or she should. That would've been such a sweet idea - them opening a restaurant. But no - they travel around in a camper.
Sorry - really - I love Brittainy - but that was so not my book. And I hate myself a tiny bit for that - because Brittainy loves this story so much! 😢

THE COLDEST WINTER was another beautiful Brittainy Cherry love story. Sweet. Heartbreaking. Funny. Sad. Adorable.
