SYNOPSIS
Jackson is always considered the 'softie'. He's the first to help people out when they're in need. He's President of the Hell's Knights and is tired of being treated like a pushover. He wants to show the world how much of a sinner he can be.
Serenity has a dark past. Secrets haunt her and she has no way of escaping them. Hogan is the only family she knows and life with him is brutal. And it's about to get worse.
He sends her on a mission.
On a mission to destroy the Hell's Knights and the Heaven's Sinners.
Can she pretend with a club she doesn't know?
Or will she betray Hogan?
Review by Janeane - ARC Received for honest review
I am a fan of MC books, so was thrilled when I received an ARC for this book (and as I sit here writing, I can hear a group of Harley's driving through town... wonder if it is our boys?)
You should read Hell's Knight and Heaven's Sinner before this book.
We have had Cade's story, then Spike's (Love Spike!!)
Now it is time for Jackson.
Jackson and Spike and their two clubs are joining forces to make sure that Hogan (remember him, he killed Spike's wife?) is gone for good.
When Hogan sends his daughter Serenity (come on fellow Aussies, you know you want to say it... how's the serenity... ok, got that out of the way) to spy on Jackson and the clubs, sparks fly.
Serenity has been abused by her father since she was a child, and hates him even though he is the only family she knows. Yet walking into the club house (ballsy move) she finds that not every biker is like her father and his club. Could these people become her new family?
“Whoa, what are you doin’?” he asks.
“I can’t be here, I can’t do this. I’m sorry. I should leave,” I ramble.
I rush past him and down the stairs. He follows; I can hear his heavy footsteps behind me. He reaches out just as I hit the bottom step, gripping my arm. I yelp loudly, spinning around and shoving at his chest so hard he stumbles backwards. His eyes widen and he quickly lets me go, throwing his hands up.
“Don’t touch me!” I scream.
His eyes are full of concern, and he gently shakes his head. “I’m sorry,” he says slowly. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I wouldn’t hurt you, I swear it. Don’t go runnin’ out in the middle of the night. It’s dangerous out there.”
“Please,” I say, my voice trembling. “I can’t be here. I appreciate your hospitality, but I can’t stay.”
“So you go runnin’ out onto the streets in the middle of the night? You know how dangerous that is?”
“I have no other choice, I can’t stay. I can’t…”
“Hey,” he says, stepping closer, his green eyes searching my face. “Ain’t no one gonna hurt you here. I swear it. Come on, darlin’…just go back and get some sleep. Sort yourself out. Then you can leave if you want.”
Darlin’.
Why does he have to be so sweet? Why can’t he be vulgar, and rude, and awful…that would make this so much easier.
I feel for Serenity. Really, whatever she does, someone is going to get hurt or killed. There is no clear choice about what she should do, especially when threats are made against those she loves.
Jackson... he has always been considered a bear on the outside, but softie on the inside. And when he first sees Serenity there is an instant attraction. He has a constant battle with himself, does he fight the attraction (hell, she is only a little older than his daughter) or does he throw caution to the wind and act on it?
I keep forgetting Jackson is only in his 40s and not an old man - until he starts getting his sex on... damn!
I love that Cade and Addie and Spike and Ciara are still pretty major players in this story.
And wait till you properly meet Muff (can you guess why he is called that??) He's such a dirty, dirty boy!
There are ups and downs with Jackson and Serenity's relationship
I love the Bella Jewel does not overdramatise the MC lifestyle, but also does not sugar coat what they get up to. Yes, they do illegal activities, but when it comes to family, they are protective of their own.
So, this is the last book in this series, and I feel that the author has done the series justice.
My one bug bear though was with punctuation. They call Jackson Jacks - fair enough. But it is written as Jack's and it really did bother me in the end.
But other than that, a thoroughly enjoyable book.
